Day 4 A trip to Toledo
Today was a "free" day. We choose a train trip to Toledo, south of Madrid. We managed to get to the train station, get tickets and hop on. We are still teachable.👍
Once in Toledo. Denise and I discovered one of the difficult walking options to the historic old town. This included our primary objective, the Toledo cathedral. Being high on a hill, should make it easy to find. But it wasn't. After a circuatous course, we did find it. Along the way we saw old town, cobblestones, narrow streets, lots of hills AND nothing was straight. Entrance included an audio guide. However it required a E50 retainer which I missed understood. So traded my ID for the audio set guaranteeing the audio return. The cathedral, started in 1266, is one of 3 high gothic cathedrals in Spain. It has a church within a church. The original choir and cathedral alter is very ornate. The outside of this inner church was carved limestone. We continued exploring by visiting the Jewish quarter. I found the blending of the architectural influences of Jewish, Christian and moor interesting. Smartly we took a taxi back to the train station.
The area around Toledo and river valley looked alot like parts of eastern Oregon.
